Leopard season

I can’t fathom having a wardrobe without leopard print. Tops, dresses, shoes, scarves, jewellery – it’s all happening in my world and I’ve stopped thinking of leopard print as a trend. But spoiler alert, it’s actually a huge trend for this winter.

My fellow Toowong Village stylist Nikki Parkinson will tell you leopard is a neutral and I wholeheartedly agree, especially this season. You’ll see leopard paired back with colour, with other prints, with contrasting leopard!… It’s new and it’s fresh and I love it. Let’s explore.

Before we go any further though, I know I jumped the gun and pronounced this winter the season of the snake (print), but it’s safe to say snake and leopard share pretty equal billing at the moment, so you’ll be safe whichever direction your animal instinct takes you.

Now back to leopard. Sussan is doing it particularly well this season, with a muted ‘animal print’ (it’s leopard) in a beautiful blouse, a midi skirt and cami, then some bolder leopard in accessories. It’s true, the softer side of this big cat is what we want to see this season – the tried and tested caramel and black toned interpretations feel a little harsh en masse right now.

Elsewhere, leopard can be seen doing a print clash this season. Cue’s campaign imagery featured their new leopard print blouse (again, muted tones, but bold enough) paired with a contrast leopard jacket and a plaid skirt. That’s right, plaid. Brace yourselves.

Shona Joy and Bec & Bridge both currently have their own versions of leopard on the racks at David Jones, and Seed has been all over the leopard accessories. They even have a leopard-trimmed sneaker if you’re looking for the tiniest hint only.

Here is a selection of some favourites available at Toowong Village right now.

Sussan bag $69.95
Sussan skirt $99.95
Cue leopard blouse $210
