National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
Toowong Village in association with Retail First Pty Ltd is incredibly honoured to be working with local Indigenous artist Zowie, with her artwork being featured in our Centre for NAIDOC Week 2022. Zowie is a self-taught contemporary Aboriginal artist, and a proud woman from the Kombumerri and Butchulla tribes.
This beautiful piece of artwork encapsulates this year’s theme Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!, women’s health and social issues. Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! aims to amplify our voices and narrow the gap between aspiration and reality, good intent and outcome.
