We are pleased to soon be welcoming Woolworths to Toowong Village, in late 2022!

David Jones has made the decision to leave mid-2021, and we have taken the opportunity to strengthen our fresh food and grocery offering.

Together with our strong trading Coles supermarket and our existing fresh food offers, Toowong customers will have the best fresh food and groceries available in inner and west Brisbane.

We are so excited for what the future holds for Toowong Village and look forward to evolving with you, our community!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are we getting another supermarket?
While we are saddened to see David Jones leave, we recently conducted customer surveys and have paid close attention to what our customers would like to see in the shopping centre.  This now gives us the opportunity to strengthen our grocery offer and meet the needs of the community. When is David Jones leaving? When is Woolworths coming in?
David Jones will relinquish its lease in mid-2021. The Woolworths development is planned to commence then in mid-2021, with an anticipated opening of late 2022. We intend to work as quickly as possible to ensure the needs of the community are met.

Why will it take so long for Woolworths to open?
We have to de-fit David Jones and make provision for the structural changes to accommodate the Woolworths fitout.  This will take 12 to 18 months to complete, along with the fitout for the new Woolworths store.

What level is Woolworths going on? What store will fill the remaining space?
The new supermarket is a 4,050 square metre store located on Gallery Level.  The store will be Woolworths’ newest format layout focusing on an expanded fresh food experience. We have had strong interest from large footprint retailers to fill the upcoming vacancy on Level 1 and will make further announcements once negotiations are finalised.

Will the store be sitting empty for a long time? Will this impact parking or centre accessibility?
Ensuring our customers can continue to access Toowong Village without interruption is a key priority of ours. David Jones will relinquish the lease in mid-2021, and Woolworths have planned to commence development shortly after the space is vacated. The store is anticipated to open in late 2022. Toowong Village will also continue trading normal hours during this time and we would love to see you continue to support your local retailers.

Are there any other changes coming to the centre?
The addition of Woolworths will coincide with travelator upgrades and works across the three-level shopping centre that will improve how our customers access and move around the centre.

I shop at Toowong Village because it has David Jones. Will I now have to go elsewhere?
We understand that some customers like shopping at David Jones and are saddened that David Jones’ decision to leave the centre will disappoint some customers. However, Toowong Village will continue to evolve with customer expectations, and we are excited to welcome Woolworths and see what the future holds for the centre.
